Performed In The Bond-Trimble Theatre

by Kirsten Dahl

Directed by Bernie Cardell

A bereaved daughter discovers her mother Verna’s hidden scrapbook from WWII. With the help of her mother’s best friend, the daughter enters the world of 1943, when Verna defied her father to enlist in the Navy WAVES and join the fight against fascism.  Verna is soon traveling from base to base, teaching the life-saving skill of instrument flying to pilots.  She learns the jitterbug, falls in love, and is mentored by one of the few Black women in the WAVES, an accomplished pilot.  But when Verna learns to fly, her deepest fear returns to haunt her.
